Easter: The Jesus Way

Series Overview

When Jesus told His disciples that He would be leaving them soon, they did not understand. They did not yet grasp that the Messiah had come to lay His life down for them, and to prepare a place for them in heaven. They were terrified of living without their Teacher standing by their side. They did not see how His death would lead to eternal life for His people. Jesus told them they knew the way to the place He was going, but Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” This is when Jesus said something earth-shattering.

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

— (John 14:6)

Jesus, Himself, is the Way. It is through Him that we are saved, and in Him we have an advocate before the Father. Jesus, our Lord, fully-God and fully-man, is the path to heaven. He is the source of all truth, and only in Him can we achieve life in the full today and eternal life forever. When we feel God is far, and when we worry for our future and our safety, and when we cannot see the way out of the troubles we find ourselves in, Jesus wants us to remember that He is the Way! Therefore, we must also turn away from all the other “ways” the world puts on our map.

If many of the jewish people around Jesus’ time had their way, the Messiah would have come in power and ushered in His Kingdom on day one. If the religious leaders of the day wrote the script, their Messiah would not have come to earth as a lowly baby. He would not have associated with back-stabbing tax collectors and those who had chosen lives of sin. If it happened how they expected, the Savior would have stepped down off the cross before even once crying out in pain. But the Way was nothing like what man expected. Let’s not miss our Messiah, like so many did before He rose from the dead on the third day.

This Lenten season, take some time to ask yourself, What’s your way? And, more importantly, what might be in the way for you to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior? The world tries to pin our hopes on a political savior, who could never satisfy. The world tells us all roads lead to heaven, and that we can make our own way. The world’s way says you are the author of your own life, and that worldly success is the mark of a good life. The world tells us there’s no standard for truth and goodness, and that we’ll never be fully known and loved. But because of Jesus, it doesn’t have to be that way.

We invite you to join us this spring for our Easter series, The Jesus Way! We’ll be diving into the Gospel of John and exploring how the Way of our God differs from the ways of the world. We’ll learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus, and we will seek to fully experience the Gospel message in our hearts as we focus on the life, sacrifice, and life anew in Christ Jesus! Remember, the Jesus Way is not just the path to heaven, but it’s how to live while you’re here on earth. So, let’s make sure we’re living the Jesus Way right now.

Summary

Jesus redeems and restores. For all of us, there are times when we turn from Jesus and live the way of the world. Yet, what we find is not shame but grace. Jesus offers grace to Peter after Peter denies Jesus, and Jesus offers grace to each of us when we fail. As Christ-followers, we must learn to offer grace to others and live our lives for Jesus. Our purpose becomes to know Jesus and to make Him known. He wants us to live our best life, and this comes when we live – the Jesus Way.
