Our celebration of the Christmas season will focus on the main character of both the Christmas story and of our own lives: Jesus Christ. In many ways, Jesus’ story actually began with a plot-twist! Take the setting – having even been turned away from the inn, the Messiah was born not in a glorious palace fit for a king, but in a stable.

And that says nothing of the fact that the God of the Universe was born on this earth to begin with; for our sake, our God took on the flesh and all its vulnerabilities and limitations. The all-powerful King of Kings came to us not like a human conqueror with an army at his side, but as a lowly baby! He came to serve the broken and hurting, not to be served. And ultimately, He came to conquer sin and give up His life for us! Emmanuel, “God with us,” is the surest definition of love we have.

But as timelessly valuable and awe-inspiring as those common insights may be, we know that every last detail of the rich story God has written points to His glory and helps us to learn more about the nature of our Father in heaven. Our God is a God of the details – He knows even the number of hairs on your head. He has a purpose for each and every one of us.

Over the next several weeks, we will dive into the less-discussed stories of those involved in the Christmas story who don’t always get center stage… those who played a role that made a difference but may not be found in your Nativity scene at home. We will see that time and time again God uses the broken, the ignored, and the ones the world leaves behind and He brings them into His perfect story. Even if you feel outcast, you’re in His cast.

This Christmas, as we delve into the “little” parts of the Christmas story, we’ll consider the big role we all have to play in the ongoing story of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! No matter who you are or what you’ve done, you’ve made the cast list. Join us in Christmas: The Supporting Cast this Christmas season.
