Summary

Faith in Jesus is extremely personal. But, it’s never meant to be private. In fact, the essence of having faith in Jesus is understanding God’s grand solution to the evil in this world and in your own heart. That means you naturally want more than anything to share that remedy with others. The call to reach out is really a command to submit to Christ’s authority in life and an opportunity to be part of His great Good News in the life of someone else.

Rolling Hills Community Church is a people of God, reaching out, growing up, and giving all.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

This wasn’t the first time God said to go.
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go…” Genesis 12:1

This wasn’t the first time that God said to make.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number.” Genesis 1:28

This wasn’t the first time that God said to teach.
These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe… Deuteronomy 6:1

Jesus commissioned His disciples to be God’s missional people - not a new plan; a new understanding.

Why is this so important?
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Romans 10:17

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”  Romans 10:15

Why don’t we go/make/teach?

Ultimately, the underlying reason we don’t do Matthew 28:19-20 well is because we don’t do authority well.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18

The last thing Jesus said can’t be the last thing we do.
