Sermon Info

Summary

Joshua’s final words to Israel continue to speak to the church today. He urgently calls us to be thankful for the past, current, and future mighty works of God. God’s gracious dealing with His people should lead us to a place of gratitude, proper worship, and service to God and others. Joshua finished his life strongly and if we live according to God’s word we, and generations to come, will finish strong as well.

Content

To finish strong in life, thank God. (Joshua 23:14)

A life of gratitude remembers the mighty works of God, sees God working in the present, and trusts God with the future.

What mighty God stories have you experienced?

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, Ephesians 1:7-8

To finish strong in life, worship God. (Joshua 23:6-11)

We worship God by:

  • Obeying His Word
  • Avoiding what would separate us from God
  • Loving God

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:4-7

To finish strong in life, serve God. (Joshua 24:14-25)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10

“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.” -William Carey

Communion
This morning, we take the Lord’s Supper together. This is a symbolic act where we partake of bread and the fruit of the vine. The bread represents Jesus' body and His living a righteous life for you. The fruit of the vine represents Jesus’ blood and sacrificial death for you. Together these memorialize Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and they anticipate His second coming. All followers of Jesus are invited to partake with us. You do not have to be a Rolling Hills partner.
