Sermon Info

Summary

From the time Jesus was 12 and his parents found him teaching in the temple, until he was grown and ready to begin His earthly ministry, we have one verse that gives us a glimpse of how He prepared to change the world. Luke 2:52 says "Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." As we kick off 2020, we explore how we too can learn from Jesus as we look to grow in stature and make godly choices this year!

Content

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52

Jesus grew physically, so what does God say about our physical bodies?

You are beautiful!
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16

  • You were made by God!
  • You are fully known and fully accepted.
  • Self-image or God-image.

You have a responsibility to take care of your body.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

  • Our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
  • You cannot separate the body and the spirit.
  • Honor God with your body.

Focus on being physically healthy.
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 John 2

  • Be diligent about your health.
  • Be mindful of what goes into your body.
  • Make exercise a priority.

Be careful not to judge people by their physical appearance
People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7b

  • Love. Everyone. Always.
  • Love vs. Lust
  • See people the way God sees them.

Your spiritual health is greater than your physical health.
For physical training is of some value, but godliness holds value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

  • Physical health is important.
  • Write down your goals.
  • But, remember that your spiritual health is the most important.

I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful. Psalm 139:14
