Faith Over Fear // Join the Work
August 23, 2026
In Matthew 9, we truly see Jesus’ heart. We have heard Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5-7, seen His miracles in Matthew 8, and now we see His heart. Jesus’ heart is filled with love and compassion. Jesus loves all people. He invites everyone to follow Him. Regardless of your religious background or the mistakes in your life. Jesus invites us on the journey of a lifetime. And, in the process, we grow to become like Him - people of love and compassion. Are you growing spiritually? And are you sharing your faith story with others? Choose faith over fear.
Jesus Invites Us to Follow Him
“As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow Me,’ He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.” Matthew 9:9
- The same call that came to Matthew comes to each one of us – “Follow Jesus.”
- Following Jesus is the greatest adventure of all.
- Share your faith story with others.
- “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15
- Have a Matthew party.
Jesus Brings New Life
“Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” Matthew 9:17
- Jesus brings a brand new life.
- Through faith we see miracles.
- We either live with faith in Jesus or with fear in the world.
Jesus Has a Heart of Compassion
“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36
- Jesus has compassion on the crowd, but He loves the individual.
- “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in me will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
- Grow a heart of love and compassion like Jesus.
- Jesus invites us to join Him in the work.
- Ask Jesus to send out workers and realize you are the answer to that prayer.
