Make Ready

Series Overview

“Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.” Loretta Lynn sang that country hymn in the 60s. Allison Kraus re-released it in the 90s. In a way, we all sing it silently in the everyday ways we live.

What is heaven actually like? Will I have a job? A body? An actual house? Heaven…is it a geographical place? Or just a state of mind? Is it just for people…or are our pets there too?

Do you believe in heaven? If you do, does that mean you also believe in hell? I guess Christians all believe in it right? And they probably think they’re the only ones who are going to be there. So what does that mean for other people? For non-Christians? Heaven is a hot topic. People claim to have seen it and even communicated with people who are theoretically in it. God gave a picture of Heaven to the writers in the Bible. Sometimes it’s detailed and specific. Other times, it’s metaphorical and fuzzy. It offers definitive hope, yet leaves room for surprises and interpretations.

We’re gonna go there for a few weeks at Rolling Hills this fall. Well, not actually go there. We are going to talk about life after life. We’re going to talk about what it means to go to heaven and live there for all eternity. We’re going to examine the picture that God gave John, the writer of Revelation, and see if what we hear, what we think, and how we feel matches with God’s words.

Summary

God loves all people. As His disciples today, we must be growing in His Word and pursuing His heart. Moses lived out God’s purposes in his day, and he prepared Joshua to lead God’s people after Moses was gone. We must all pour into those who come behind us. Who is your Joshua? If you have children, then they are your answer. In addition, it might also be those you lead in Community Group, teach on Sunday mornings or even your nieces and nephews. Raising up disciples of Christ must be on the forefront of your mind. Pointing people to Christ and teaching people His Word is the call of all His disciples. Are we preparing those who come behind us to lead our families, churches and communities? Moses did this well – will we?
