Living An Intentional Life

Series Overview

Every Christian has someone in their life who has not come to know Jesus. We want everybody to come to know the truth, to be saved, and to walk in the light of Christ. We yearn for every last person to experience the grace of God, and the joy that Jesus brings. We long for their lives to change, their eternities to be transformed, and to be able to call them our brothers and sisters in Christ. And yet, how often do we find ourselves shying away from sharing the Gospel with the people around us? The truth is, evangelism can be tough.

While the why might be clear, we often struggle with deciding who to approach with the Gospel, and how. There are more unsaved people than a single Christian could speak to in a thousand years. So, how can we discern who to focus our efforts on? And then, how can we bring the truth to them when there’s all kinds of other worldviews competing for their minds? How can we speak to them about what is good when we ourselves still struggle with sin? How can we handle the repeated rejection we’re bound to experience when invitations go unaccepted?

Nonetheless, in Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus instructs us to, Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. This command is no afterthought — it’s the Great Commission! We have been saved, and our God has won the war; yet, there’s still change to be had in the hearts of our unsaved neighbors. Jesus knew then the challenges we would face today in spreading the Good News. Thankfully, Jesus promises that, even as this battle for souls rages on, Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

While we are limited in our presence, our time, our wisdom, and our power to change others, our God is not. The same Holy Spirit inside us that produces the Fruit of the Spirit will also guide us as we go about sharing the Gospel! Because our great God is with us, we can be prepared to take on the Great Commission. He can make mountains move in the spiritual lives of our families and friends, and He can bring about the baptisms we never thought we’d see. All He wants from us is that we will let Him work through us as we scatter seeds of the Gospel.

In this five-week series, Living an Intentional Life, we’ll be learning about the five I’s of evangelism: Identify, Invest, Intercede, Inform, and Invite. These five steps will help you to build a Biblical strategy for bringing the Gospel to others and watching for God to multiply your efforts. Whether it’s with someone close to you or someone you just met, sharing your faith can be difficult. But our God knows the challenge, and His Word contains wisdom for how to meet that challenge. We hope you’ll join us this fall as we renew our commitment to God’s call to spread the Good News.

Summary

Living an Intentional Life means joining God in His agenda. We first identify His call on our life. Then, we invest in what matters – what is eternal. After this, we begin to intercede. Pray for others and ask God to do miracles in our lives as well as in the lives of others. Next, we inform those around us about God’s Good News, and finally, we invite others to Jesus and to be a part of His Church. Let’s not become distracted in our noisy world today, but let’s be bold and live intentional lives for the glory of our great God!
