Summary

This summer we have been on an amazing journey with the children of Israel as God brought them out of slavery and led them to the Promised Land. In our own lives, we are on an amazing journey with the Lord as well. God has freed us from being slaves to sin, and He is leading us to our forever home in heaven. What are we doing with this life we have been given? Are we following Jesus and blessing others or simply living for ourselves? We are all leaving a legacy; the question is this: what kind of legacy will you leave? Will you live your life for the glory of God and help those who come behind you to know Him better? Let’s leave a legacy for Jesus!

Content

Legacy is not just how we are remembered. It’s what we leave behind
For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel. Deuteronomy 34:12

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29

not for the next generation, but in them…
No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. Deuteronomy 30:14

not only in them, but with them.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

Preparation is always more than qualification. It starts with spiritual identification.
Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses. Deuteronomy 34:9

Question: Are those in line after me “filled with God” because of me or in spite of me?

Legacy features:

Good or bad, it will travel further than we intend.
When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations. Deuteronomy 30:1

As important as it is, it’s easier than we imagine. (Reason: grace)
The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love Him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. Deuteronomy 30:6

It must always be broader than who we typically include.
Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 31:12

It ought to come with a warning.
And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake Me and break the covenant I made with them. Deuteronomy 31:16
